Christmas Gift Suggestion (but not for me)

December 8th, 2007

eye-fi-card.jpgIf you’re having a hard time finding a gift for the techie who has everything, I have a gift recommendation: Eye-Fi wireless SD Card. It’s a replacement for the memory card in your camera (with 2 gigabyte storage capacity), that automatically uploads your pictures to your computer and, if you choose, the online photo hosting site you use.

If you just gasped because you think it’s a brilliant idea, you’re right. It’s that cool.

If you just gasped because you don’t like the idea of your camera automatically uploading anything to the internet, then you’re having a little too much fun with your camera, you little devil — but don’t worry, the uploaded pictures are marked private so the world won’t be able see them unless you manually change the settings.

I’ve had mine for about three weeks and I love it.

Read about it or buy it. (I do not receive any commissions for this recommendation.)

Why I Turned My Scooter into a Menorah

December 6th, 2007

mopedmenroah.jpgEver since I moved into this condo we haven’t had a really good place to keep the scooter. As a result, it’s spent more time outside and accumulated, well, a little bit of rust. Clearly, the best thing to do with a rusty scooter is turn it into a roadside menorah — so I did!  It was so easy!

A Winter Sailing Tradition Continues

December 3rd, 2007

2081999408_3bb10a3568.jpgSo remember that winter sailing trip Tim and I took in 2004? And the similar one we took in 2005? Well, we did it again this year. We decided to deviate from the OSSPMC (Off-Season, Semi-Permeable Micro Cruising) moniker. This year we called it Mitten Roasting, Authority Summonsing Sailing Expedition. The name tells you most of the important parts, but the rest of the story includes 30+ kts in Buzzards Bay, temps below 20 degrees, and lots of laughter. (Especially when one of us spoke the forbidden word: cold.)

Check out a slideshow and a link to all the pics after the jump.

RSS and Why you should care.

November 25th, 2007

rss-icon.jpgAlright friends. I know you’ve seen this orange radar symbol before. It’s called RSS and it’s one of RSH’s favorite things online. Here’s why.

See the post just below this one? Less than an hour after I posted that story I my old friend Tony was on the site. Does this mean Tony (last seen in person 3+ years ago) sits at home refreshing Rusharound.com waiting for updates? Probably not. That orange symbol is the answer.

If you don’t know what RSS is, come watch a 2 minute video that will probably change the way you use the internet. Read the rest of this entry »

Secret Project Revealed:

November 17th, 2007

banner2.gif

Okay, maybe its not the best kept secret in the world, but for awhile now I’ve been working to save my friends some cash and spare some CO2 from going into the atmosphere. It’s an effort to improve cars’ efficiency by doing a simple thing: putting the right amount of air in their tires.

But why? Each day under inflated tires cause Americans to waste enough gas to fill 10 miles’ worth of tanker trailers. Putting air in your tires is one of those special “everyone wins” efforts — your tires last longer, your car will handle better, and you’ll save gas and CO2 emissions.

4GreenTires.org does two things:

  • Provides FREE tire gauges to the first 100 people that ask for them. (Shipping included!)
  • Calculates the amount of gasoline, money and carbon you save by filling up your tires.

Who made this:

  • Special thanks to friend Liz B, Evan O, Isahrai A and Paul M. I have some great and talented friends. I owe you big!

What you should do now:

Go there!

Katie and Drew Become Texans

November 3rd, 2007

img_0980.JPGWhen Marc and I moved to Newport in 2001 one of the first people we met was Katie A. Later we shared an apartment, some adventures, and lots and lots of laughs.  This summer Katie told us that she and Drew are taking their scene down to Texas to become boutique boat builders.  If you’ve ever met Katie, you know what a bummer this is for her New England friends.

To see a slide show of some of the fun times we’ve had with Katie, follow this link: Read the rest of this entry »

Colbie Caillat – Have you heard of her?

November 2nd, 2007

colbiecaillat.jpgWe have Starbucks’ free music cards to thank for the introduction to a great new performer, Colbie Caillat (no apparent connection to my alma mater). If you’re in the mood for some new tunes, follow the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

This morning your website ran a defamatory article that called me a name.

I demand a retraction, you jerkfaces.
