Hello, this is Rush, How can I help you?
Today Hoss emailed me with a scootering question. I was going to reply with my answer but then thought — maybe the world should know this stuff? So, thanks to His Hossness’ prompting, I’m going to try an experimental new section. Ask Rush.
Have a question of your own? Please, please, please make me feel useful by passing it on in the comments section. And now, on to Hoss’ question… Read the rest of this entry »

Grew up in California? Yes.
Grew up surfing? No. (Despite the best intentions of my good uncle Rob.) Rob’s a super-successful orthodontist in Pasadena with a passion for surfing.
He’s been doing it since high school. The most stunning proof of this is the house he and Aunt Cindy bought near Gaviota, CA at a place called the Hollister Ranch. It’s a real working ranch with cattle and all that, but it’s most famous for its surf. And if you click the link just after this sentence, you’ll see more about that place, even some video of me piloting a real life surfboard.

Time for some cultcha! Sarah and I visited two interesting museums on this trip: The Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino, and the Getty Villa in Malibu. (We also saw the Eastman (i.e. Kodak) house in Rochester – but that’ll have to be yet another story).
Basically, if you become a transportation/oil magnate you have to set up a shrine to yourself, and Sarah and I really enjoyed our stroll through these characters’ homes.

Where were we? Oh yeah – we’d just stepped off our little rented boat and into a littler rented car and zoomed to Pasadena, for my cousin’s wedding. Now, if the last post’s pictures have raised your expectations for photo evidence of this wedding, you’re going to be a bit disappointed. Somehow, we managed to fire off 27 photos and not a single one of the bride and groom. And the same goes for my sister, who tells me that she has lots of pictures of her daughter at the wedding (so do we), but none of Lindsey and Mark.
So I’ll try and paint a picture of the ceremony with words and pictures of other interesting components.

After all the fun we had at Jess and Dan’s Wedding, Sarah and I took it easy the next day. Luckily for us, it happened to be Rochester’s Park Avenue Festival, a once-a-year showcase of embarrassing made-at-home handicrafts the region’s rampant cottage nick-knack industry. Now ten days later, I can’t think of much memorable to say of that day, except that we had a great time remembering all the fun of the night before.
The rest of the goods – with photos! – after the jump.

This weekend, Jess and Dan attracted all their fans to Rochester, NY for the perfect wedding for two educators — the reception was held in a cool science museum with lots of displays for the kids and adults. (It seems the former outnumbered the latter by a large margin.)
Check out the slide show after the jump.

It was a quiet weekend at the Hambleton Condopound, what with sailing and camping exploits thwarted by schedule cancellations and weather and all. This left some time for web browsing and the discovery of a collection of Japanese Rube Goldberg videos.
After you’ve pondered the 10 minutes of kitchen-table physics, comment back answering: 1) Would making these be a good way to spend otherwise idle time, and, 2) What would you guess “Ka-knock-a-waka-wee-chee” translates to in English?
