Lon-Done. And we’re kind of sad about it.
Yesterday we returned from our English vacation and we wish we were still back there. Each morning seemed like a Sunday to us with chances to lounge a bit, explore some, and eat and sip as much tea as we liked. The trip is pretty well chronicled in our Flickr album, but there are a couple of events that warrant additional explanation.
Warning: If you go to the Tate Modern Museum in London, be very, very careful of the hallways there. Milliseconds after learning that we were about to miss a ferry to the other Tate Museum, a staffer bolted out of an office, swinging a door right into my face.
The result? A small bruise and a broken set of glasses. We didn’t stop to live up to Americans’ reputation as litigious turds, but hurried to catch the ferry. (We didn’t make it.)
Without both temples, my glasses didn’t stay on my face but I later found out that a bandaid, when taped to the side of my head, held them in place pretty well. (The resulting “bandaged bum” looked suspicious enough for two sets of TSA officials to frisk me while trying to get on the plane back home.)
None of this got in the way of some great touring, including a visit to a store we’d studied in school.
And the chance to see a $60,000 television…
Or our three days in Oxford, which began with a great walk through a (partially flooded) meadow to a great restaurant:
…and visits to a handful of Oxford’s 39 colleges
(This is Magdalen – pronounced Maudlin)
We even met the lucky guy who will live in this room, situated over a tributary to the Thames.
..and some time for some nerd fun, too.
England had one more surprise in store for us. On our last full day there, Sarah’s wallet went missing. Luckily, no one else seems to have found it either, as the ATM and credit cards were not used. We retraced our steps a couple of times, including two visits to this cafe:
…and the Bodleian Library:
But no dice. We never found the wallet.
So after several intimate friskings at Heathrow…
…the wallet-less Sarah and vagabond-looking Rush headed home to resume school, work and our American lifestyles. Sigh.

What an adventure! Looking forward to catching up soon. So sorry about the wallet and the glasses.
