Early Christmas Present from Rusharound

December 23rd, 2008

(If you’re reading this in an RSS reader, you’re missing out.  Trust me.  Come to Rusharound.com the olde fashioned way.)

Sarah and I were thinking of Christmas gifts we could give each and every one of you.  Our criteria:  it had to be affordable and take less than a second to send it to you.

Well, this is what we came up with.  A nice, juicy slab of bacon for you to enjoy while you browse.

Scroll all you like.  It’s not going anywhere.

Huh?  What’s that you say?  You want every website you visit to have a slice of bacon on it?  Simply add your favorite url to the back end of this url: http://bacolicio.us/  (For example, check out http://bacolicio.us/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism

UPDATE:

My doctor emailed and told me that Rusharound’s cholesterol was getting too high and I had to lay off the bacon.   But here’s what it used to look like.

I’m Dreaming of a Quiet Christmas…

December 13th, 2008

The very day that I turned in my final assignment for forecasting class, I turned my attention toward the most important forecast around:  the date that little Hambletiny leaves Sarah’s Hambletummy and joins us.

I did a little research about the distribution of childbirth gestation dates to find out just how likely a pre-Christmas “baby present” might be.  The answer?  someplace less than 10%.

Here’s the raw data:

Week # % of births
37 6% <– Christmas Week
38 14%
39 22%
40 32%
41 15%
42 3%
43 0

So it looks like it’ll probably be a white quiet Christmas for us… …all the more time to get ready!

OSSPMC 2008

November 23rd, 2008

Continuing a tradition that started in 2004 and continued to 2005 and 2007, Tim and I set out for a little Off Season Sarah’s Pregnant Micro Cruising Trip on Friday.  (Yes, my astute friends, the SP in OSSPMC changes each year.)  With Hambletiny coming in January, Tim and I decided to move the trip a little earlier in the season than usual. The weather seemed like December, so we didn’t feel like we missed much anything in our fingers or toes.
Update:  New pics from Rufas Van Gruisen.

Mini Kitchen Remodel

November 2nd, 2008

After talking about it for three years, we finally decided to fix up our kitchen. First, we got rid of the ugly under-counter fluorescent lights and replaced them with cool Xenon lights. Then, we painted the walls a lovely shade called Summer Dragonfly. (Before you freak out about the pregnant lady around the PAINT FUMES, you should know that we used a new eco-friendly NO-VOC paint called Fresh Aire. And we also ran the fan and opened the windows for ventilation.)

Here are the before, during and after pictures.

A Hambletiny Little Update

October 21st, 2008

By popular demand, a 28 week belly shot!

So, confused enough about the economy yet?

October 4th, 2008

You are forgiven if you don’t know your credit default swaps from your asset back security.  It’s not simple stuff – it turns out even the people who knew this stuff didn’t know it, and the regulators most certainly didn’t know what was going on.

But given the impact this mess is about to have on your life (if it hasn’t already), you should know what’s going on – in simple language anyone can understand.

You don’t even need to read anything, just listen to part one, and part two of this radio program.  In each case, look for an icon like this:

A First Timer’s Reaction to What He Thinks Was a Kick

September 8th, 2008

That’s right a kick.  Sarah’s been telling me that she feels kicks – well, or maybe just movement – more and more each day.  The trouble is, that motion is sporatic and fleeting – so I haven’t been able to feel it myself.

Sarah said she felt movement and I put my hand on her belly.  We stopped our discussion.  Spoke in whispers.  I held my fingers gingerly.

Nothing happened.

Then?  …more nothing happened.

Then? –  Imagine the the popping middle of a bottle cap like the one pictured above.  … muffled through a folded towel.  That’s how subtle the thump was.

And Sarah nodded – yep was my first kick.

World, Meet Jack Dunbar.

September 4th, 2008

Sarah’s brother and sister in law just passed along some good news:  Hambletiny has a cousin waiting for him.

He was born on September 3 and everyone is doing well!

(There’s an adorable picture waiting under that icon to the left.)
