Honeymoon in St. Martin

We went to St. Martin for our honeymoon, spending five days in a resort and three on a chartered boat.

Though the weather deteriorated for the last couple of days, we had a super time.

We weren't great about documenting the trip, but here are the few pictures we have.

Sarah finds a hibiscus early in the trip.
We saw this shop in the town of Marigot. We didn't go in so you'll have to imagine for yourself what goes on in here.

This is the main street in Grand Case, where we stayed.

Traffic goes both ways on this road; you can imagine why large US-built trucks are kind of rare here.

We were lucky to be there on November 11, which is St. Martin's day. The relay race shown here is the only time we saw anyone in a hurry.
We got around by "bus" - which is really a network of privately owned vans that run between the main cities. It only cost a $1 each way. We felt very safe and it was kind of fun. We were surprised to never see other visitors on the busses.
Sarah got her hair cut at the Octopussy Salon. Tres french!
We took a day trip to St. Barts. This picture was not taken from a plane - it's really that steep.
Looking west past Ile Forche and St. Martin in the background.
We found some excellent beaches there.
...which are allegedly cleaned by this machine. If you've ever see what drips or falls off the bottom of one of these things you'd be suspicious of its efficacy.
This little path leads to the best beach we found on St. Barts. "Saline Beach"
Downtown Gustavia in St. Barts. Because it was a holiday, all the stores were closed.
A little cove on St. Barts.
Back on St. Martin. This handy little store never closes!
We never found out what flower this is, but it became our favorite. Does anyone know?
George Bush and Francois Mitterrand had dinner here.
Bay Rouge on St. Martin.
Rush learns how to swim.
The weather waited until we got on the boat to turn foul. We spent a lot of time reading and some time playing scrabble on Rush's phone (which was relegated to a simple palm pilot since we were out of Sprint PCS range).

Keeping an eye on the weather

During a dry moment
Apparently, the charter company followed the pillow manufacturer's instructions exactly.
We discovered an interesting hotel with an identity problem. It used to the the Meridien, now it's La Habitation, and soon to be a Radisson. The lobby had no doors (just puddles of water after the tropical wave went through).
Our last night on the boat we anchored off Ile Pinel, across the very-hip Orient Bay. We had the place to ourselves!
...and then back to the real world! What a great trip!
