An Anti-Static Sprayer for my friend Evan

Static Guard Sprayer My colleague Evan is noted for, among other things, generating enough static electricity to inadvertently reset the clock in his microwave. Just walking by Evan is a risky proposition. So I decided to take action. On Monday I will deliver to Evan his own automatic anti-static sprayer. Its a simple machine that is triggered when he steps on the threshold. More pictures and a video after the jump.

The Parts Disregard the HVAC register part; I didn’t use it
Parts

  • Complete bike brake set
  • Some angle brackets
  • Some little spring loaded clips
  • Lots of rivets
  • A threshold
My “workbench” This is my “work bench.” The drill press you see is actually a cordless drill, the vice is actually my bare hands, and the work bench is actually an Ikea filing cabinet with its cushion removed. Note to self: Make sure next home has a workshop.
The spring clip (trigger) The system is triggered when this clip is opened.
Bottom of Threshold Here is that same part, where it lives under the threshold.
The Threshold Here’s the finished threshold with the cable exiting through the hole.
The business end of it Here’s the finished part. When the cable is pulled, the can lifts and the nozzle is pressed against the bar that the top, making it squirt.

Rush, that is brilliant! I wonder if the same could be done with a can of air freshener for people with sweaty feet…
