Prius vs. Biodiesel Volkswagen
“Smug, Nanner-Nanner-Nanner” alert..
It looks like a diesel Volkswagen, even one burning a meager 20% biodiesel, is easier on the world’s fossil fuels than a Toyota Prius hybrid. So says a University of New Hampshire study recently reported by AutoBlogGreen.
I’ve been sizzling with bio-energy-pride this week because I found a biodiesel source made from a local restaurant’s cast off fryolater oil. (Eat at Redbones, please!) I’m done bragging now.

Update: Over the weekend I got to spend some time with a Prius and was impressed — they really are getting 50+ MPG on the highway, and 56MPG+ in the city. This beats my car’s 40MPG number…

I read today on Honest John’s website that as diesels become more complex they are tending to also become more expensive to repair and to need repairs more often (see Dual Mass Flywheels, for example). Another element to the gas/petrol vs. diesel conundrum?
